Session structure

What actually happens inside each session

Sessions are kept small deliberately. When fewer people are in the room, questions get real answers instead of general ones.

Each session opens with a short demonstration using a real scene — not a studio setup designed to look easy. From there, participants work through the same problem with guidance. The focus is on decision-making: why one light position works and another doesn't, what the camera is actually measuring, and where photographers most often misread what they're seeing.

  • Live demonstration with unedited source files shared after
  • Structured feedback on participant work submitted in advance
  • Recorded replay available for 60 days post-session
  • Written reference notes covering the core concepts discussed

Questions people ask before committing

These come up often enough that answering them here saves everyone time. If something isn't covered, the contact form below goes directly to a person.

Camera body and a lens that can be set manually is all you need. The sessions are about understanding light behaviour, not showcasing equipment. Participants have attended with entry-level mirrorless cameras and produced the clearest examples of the session.
A full recording is available within 24 hours of the session ending and stays accessible for 60 days. The written notes and source files are sent regardless of whether you attended live. Live attendance does make the feedback portion more useful, but the recorded version covers the full demonstration.
Cancellations made more than 7 days before the session date receive a full refund. Within 7 days, you can transfer your place to another person or apply the amount toward a future session. Contact us directly and we'll sort it out without friction.
Sessions are capped at 12 participants. That number came from experience — above it, the feedback portion becomes too rushed to be useful. The remaining places shown on each session listing are accurate and updated in real time.
